Film Synopsis

In 1963, Antoine is 14 and lives near Nantes, one of four children in a family of modest means.  His father is often away from home, working in a hotel.  Like most boys of his age, he is addicted to rock 'n' roll.  As he revises for his exam retakes he falls under the spell of the beautiful Olivia, who lives in a nearby château with her wealthy parents.  One day, Antoine is injured in a road accident and ends up in hospital.  Feeling partly to blame for the accident, Olivia insists on visiting him on a regular basis.  She takes advantage of her visits to coach Antoine for his exams.  With Olivia's encouragement, the teenager gains a deeper appreciation of French literature and he realises that he might one day become a great writer...
