Dick Powell was an American actor and producer whose birth name was Richard Ewing Powell. He was born in Mountain View, Arkansas, USA on 14th November 1904 and died in West Los Angeles, California, USA on 2nd January 1963, aged 58.

His best films as an actor include Busby Berkeley's comedy Gold Diggers of 1935 (1935), Preston Sturges's Christmas in July (1940), Edward Dmytryk's crime-thriller Murder, My Sweet (1944), Cornered (1945) and Vincente Minnelli's The Bad and the Beautiful (1952), and whose best work as a film director include Split Second (1953), The Enemy Below (1957) and The Hunters (1958).
