Billy Wilder was an American film director, screenwriter and producer. He was born in Sucha, Galicia, Austria-Hungary on 22nd June 1906 and died in West Los Angeles, California, USA on 27th March 2002, aged 95.

His best films as a screenwriter include Stalag 17 (1953), Witness for the Prosecution (1957), Some Like It Hot (1959), The Apartment (1960) and The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes (1970), and whose best work as a film director include Double Indemnity (1944), Sunset Boulevard (1950), Witness for the Prosecution (1957), Some Like It Hot (1959) and The Apartment (1960).
