Isabelle Huppert

Isabelle Huppert, une des actrices françaises les plus en vue et les plus douées de notre époque connaît une carrière cinématographique stupéfiante et couronnée de succès. Elle est célèbre tant pour ses interprétations d’innocentes fragiles aux yeux écarquillés que pour ses rôles des femmes fatales, sournoises et résolues. Son jeu, à la fois fascinant et convaincant,   pousse souvent le spectateur à se plonger dans l’intrigue, captivé qu’il est par l’empathie troublante que lui inspire l’actrice.

Isabelle Huppert est née à Paris le 16 mars 1955. Elle est la plus jeune d’une famille de quatre enfants appartenant à la classe moyenne supérieure. Après des débuts comme mannequin, elle décide, avec le soutien de ses parents, de devenir actrice.  Peu de temps après avoir été admise au Conservatoire d’art dramatique de Paris, pour sa première apparition cinématographique  elle joue un petit rôle dans « Faustine et le bel été », en 1972. Elle joue également d’autres petits rôles pour des téléfilms, mais elle n’est véritablement remarquée que dans « César et Rosalie » de Claude Sautet, en 1972, dans lequel elle interprète la sœur cadette de Romy Schneider.

Après son apparition dans environ une demi-douzaine d’autres films, elle acquiert rapidement la célébrité et reçoit des éloges unanimes pour son rôle dans « La Dentellière », en 1977, qui lui vaut d’être récompensée par un César. L’année suivante elle remporte le Prix d’interprétation féminine à Cannes avec le film de Claude Chabrol, « Violette Nozière ». Elle est immédiatement reconnue par le public, et aussi par les critiques et les cinéastes. En plus de ses nombreuses collaborations avec Claude Chabrol, elle travaille avec quelques-uns des grands réalisateurs français, dont Jean-Luc Godard, Maurice Pialat et Michel Deville.

En 1980, Isabelle Huppert quitte sa France natale pour sa première expérience à Hollywood, dans le film désormais célèbre de Michael Cimino, « Heaven’s Gate ». Ce coup d’essai n’est pas des plus agréables pour l’actrice, empêchée de parler français sur le plateau, et le film connaît un échec commercial retentissant. L’actrice revient rapidement en France et se rachète par des interprétations excellentes dans « Coup de torchon », de Tavernier, et «  Eaux profondes », de Deville (1981).

Au cours des années 80, la popularité d’Isabelle Huppert s’accroît en même temps que l’actrice mûrit et aborde des rôles plus divers. « Coup de foudre » de Diane Kury, en 1983, dans lequel elle partage l’affiche avec Miou-Miou, « La Garce » de Christine Pascal, en 1984, où elle donne la réplique à Richard Berry, et « Une affaire de femmes », l’histoire émouvante de Chabrol au cours de la Seconde Guerre mondiale, lui valent ses interprétations les plus célèbres.

Vers la fin des années 80, Isabelle Huppert est parvenue à s’imposer comme la principale actrice française, une place qu’elle conservera la décennie suivante.. Elle acquiert dans le même temps une dimension internationale en acceptant de travailler à l’étranger, essentiellement en Italie et aux Etats-Unis, mais son attachement au cinéma français reste le plus fort. C’est à cette période qu’elle interprète ses plus beaux rôles : dans « La Séparation » (1994), de Christian Vincent, où elle joue avec Daniel Auteuil, et dans le thriller populaire de Claude Chabrol, « La Cérémonie » (1995), où elle incarne une receveuse des postes, psychotique et psychopathe. En 1991, elle prête également ses traits à l’héroïne tragique en mal d’amour de Flaubert, « Madame Bovary », dans un film de Chabrol, unanimement salué une fois de plus.

La popularité de l’actrice reste intacte à l’aube de la nouvelle décennie. En 2001, son interprétation formidable de la maîtresse de Louis XIV, Madame de Maintenon, dans le film historique « Saint-Cyr » lui vaut une nomination aux Césars, dans la catégorie « meilleure actrice », mais ne lui permet pas de remporter le prix. Tout porte à croire que le cinéma français ait à compter encore longtemps avec Isabelle Huppert.
