Synopsis
In a train, escaped criminal Pierre Gohelle meets a young man named Alain Ginestier, a banker who is keen to get to South America.  Gohelle tells Alain he can help him to get on a boat and will meet him that evening at Le Havre, in a bar where his mistress Marie-Ange is the star of the cabaret.  Marie-Ange has already arranged for Gohelle to leave the country in a boat belonging to Captain Dejanin, a man who is in love with her.  With police scouring the docks in search of Gohelle, Dejanin’s crew demand money not to reveal the criminal’s presence.  Gohelle has no choice but to steal money from Alain, but Marie-Ange refuses to allow this to happen...
