Summary
From 1870 to 1939, we follow the fortunes of a typical French family
over three generations. The story begins in 1871. When her
parents die during the siege of Paris, Estelle struggles to bring up
her two younger brothers, Félix and Bernard. Fortunately,
she has her Uncle Hector to help her. Years later, Félix
has acquired a taste for adventure and sets out for the colonies,
whilst his brother Bernard becomes a schoolteacher and marries
Gabrielle...
