Summary
In a natural wilderness, by the side of a forbidding lake, there is a
wood cabin that is home to a family of five. Alexi, the son, is
at peace in this bleak and solitary world, happily occupied in his task
as a woodcutter, and no longer troubled by his epileptic fits. He
has grown very close to his sister, Hege, whom he loves even more than
his parents and his uncle. One day, a stranger arrives, a young
man named Jurgen who is barely older than Alexi. Hege becomes
fascinated by the stranger, who is equally drawn towards her.
Feeling hurt and betrayed, Alexi leaves his home and disappears into
the forest..
