Summary
Hubert Verkamen appears surprised when he is arrested, charged with
murdering a family. He presents himself as an honest businessman,
with nothing to hide. The police, however, are convinced that he
is a dangerous drugs trafficker and are ready to employ any trick to
extort a confession...
Review
Almost the antithesis of the modern crime thriller, Un honnête commerçant
is an atypical Belgian film that gives a dark Kafkaesque twist to the
familiar police procedural drama. Despite the film’s slow pace,
slightly stilted direction and lack of action sequences, it manages to
hold the viewer’s attention, thanks mainly to the creditable
performances from the lead actors.
