MGM’s version of the charming operetta The Merry Widow has Lana Turner as the title character and Fernando Lamaz as the gigolo who tries to marry her for money. After all, someone must save the small and almost bankrupted Middle-European country of Marshovia. The shallowness of the love story is overshadowed by lovely costumes and sets and gorgeous Technicolor – the film looks heavenly. Charming, clean, refreshingly old-fashioned film.
