Summary
Vaucourt , a customs inspector at the port of Marseilles, falls in love with a beautiful
foreigner, Madame Valnis. He allows her to take him to night clubs where he ends
up gambling away a small fortune. The owner of the night clubs, Zarapoulos, agrees
to clear Vaucourt’s debts if, in return, he agrees to turn a blind eye when a consignment
of his passes through customs. Realising he has been duped, Vaucourt refuses...
