Summary
One sunny summer Sunday afternoon, an aspiring young filmmaker named
Marcel Carné takes on a stroll along the banks of the River
Marne. What we see are impressions from another world, that happy
time before the Second World War and a slew of technological advances
that would change this setting forever. How beautiful the world
is, how happy and carefree everyone seems. The men are impeccably
dressed in dark suits. The women all wear implausibly large
hats. Their smiles reflect the summer warmth and an eternal
gratitude for the miracle of creation. It is a vision of
paradise that Carné would never show us again...
