Les Aveux les plus doux is a French thriller film first released in 1971, directed by Edouard Molinaro.  The film is based on a novel by Georges Arnaud and stars Philippe Noiret, Roger Hanin, Marc Porel, Caroline Cellier and Gérard Landry.  It has also been released under the title: The Most Gentle Confessions.  Our overall rating for this film is: good.

Synopsis
Jean Dubreuil agrees to help a friend rob a circus.  Jean manages to get the money as planned but everything goes wrong when his friend badly injures a circus employee who ran after them.  Whilst his friend escapes, Jean is arrested.  Inspectors Muller and Borelli are put in charge of the case.  Jean pretends to be innocent, insisting that his friend is the sole culprit.  Muller tries the soft approach and Borelli the hard approach to get Jean’s to confess to the robbery and the assault.  The police inspectors insist that a full confession is the only way that Jean can avoid prison and marry his girlfriend Catherine.  Jean finally agrees to having participated in the robbery but denies having injured anyone.  Muller and Borelli then decide to get one step further in their attempt to fabricate a convenient truth...
