Summary
In 1945, Gérard Lacassagne meets Maurice Morand, a defrocked priest, in a German prisoner-of-war camp.  Through his contact with this strange individual, Gérard finds he has a vocation to become a priest.  When Maurice publishes a book called 33 Years Jesus, 2000 Years Judas, the Church is outraged because Maurice claims that it has betrayed everything that Jesus Christ taught.  Back home, Gérard’s family and his fiancée Catherine refuse to accept his decision to become a priest and actively try to stop him by informing the Church authorities of his friendship with Maurice.  Learning that Catherine has betrayed him, Gérard makes up his mind to train for the priesthood, under a friend of Maurice.

The best interpretation I ever seen (Pierre Fresnay). Unfortunately, as far as I know, it’s not available in DVD.
