Summary
Eric Masson and Charles Lepicard decide that the best way to make money is… by making money.  They start up a counterfeiting operation, recruiting a retired crook Le Dabe to help them.  They also need an engraver, and so they engage Robert Mideau, an apparently naïve individual whom they intend to double cross.  However, Mideau turns out not to be as innocent as he appears...

Review
Thanks to Michel Audiard’s witty dialogue and some well-judged comic performances – notably from the great Bernard Blier – Le Cave se rebiffe makes a respectable comedy thriller, with plenty of good laughs cranked into a familiar policier plot. Jean Gabin plays the cool gangster mastermind with a pleasing touch of irony, and there’s a nice cameo appearance from Françoise Rosay.  The film is significant in that it features the last notable screen appearance of Martine Carole before her untimely death in 1967.
