Summary
After the death of his father, Dr Pascal Rouvray decides to abandon his
life in Paris and his fiancée Laurence Avenières so that
he can return to his home village and take over his father’s
practice. He supports his sister Claire, before she marries
Julien Aulnois, and he himself marries Henriette, a girl he grew up with as a
child. Ten years later, Pascal is invited back to the Faculty of
Medicine in Paris. He meets old friends, like the financier
Epervans and Chassal, a politician who married Laurence and became the
Minister of Justice. Still angry because of his rejection of her,
Laurence decides to take revenge on Pascal...
