Synopsis
Raymond Villiers, a former dance champion, lives on the banks of a
Parisian canal with his wife Evelyn. When a disfigured colonel
shows up and threatens physical harm unless he settles his gambling
debt, Raymond is sent into a state of panic and turns to his friends
for support. These include Margos, a restaurant owner who thinks
only of his ill-health, and Zizi, an old newspaper seller who, despite
his racist views, has a kind regard for Zouzou, a child of African
origin. Meanwhile, a mentally disturbed man
named Jérémie is scouring the area in search of women he
can strangle with his scarf, which is embroidered with an
ibis. When Raymond and Margos are killed by
Jérémie, Zizi holds himself to blame for their deaths and
decides to confess to the killings...
