Summary
Philippe Bretonneau is a well-known writer, but he owes his success to his ghost writer, the modest Jacques Moluchet.  Concerned that Bretonneau’s books are not selling as well as they were, his publisher suggests a publicity stunt: pretend that the manuscript of his next book has been stolen by Jim la Houlette, the king of the thieves.  Moluchet is coerced into playing the notorious burglar, only to come face-to-face with him when he breaks into Bretonneau’s château.  Mistaken for the real Jim la Houlette, Moluchet is arrested and charged with the murder of a policeman many years ago...
