Summary
Gilbert Valence is a veteran stage actor of high repute. One
evening, whilst appearing in a performance of a Eugène Ionesco
play, he is given some tragic news. His wife, his daughter and
son-in-law have just been killed in a car accident. The shock is
almost overwhelming but Gilbert somehow finds the will to continue
working, whilst bringing up the grandson he adores. However,
he is no longer a young man and the strain of his work is being to take
its toll...
