Il Cambio della guardia (1962)

Il Cambio della guardia is an Italian-French film comedy first released in 1962, directed by Giorgio Bianchi and Sergio Leone.  The film is based on a novel by Charles Exbrayat and stars Fernandel, Gino Cervi, Franco Parenti, Andrea Aureli and Franck Fernandel.  It has also been released under the title: Avanti la musica.  Our overall rating for this film is: mediocre.


In April 1943, the sound of gunfire shatters the peace of Ardea, a small town somewhere between Rome and Naples.  As the German troops retreat, the town’s inhabitants consider the consequences of the liberation.  Mario Venicio is nominated mayor by the Fascists, but considers it prudent to give up his place to the innkeeper Attilio Capellaro.  The latter is not only a notorious anti-Fascist, he is also the town’s bandleader, and his son is engaged to Venicio’s daughter.  Events take an unexpected turn when the provisional mayor is accused of murdering a wealthy Fascist...
