Summary
Dolpo, a region in the north-west of the Himalayas.  Tinlé, the old ruler of a village perched high up in the mountains, refuses to allow a young upstart, Karma, to drive a caravan of yaks.  The reason: he believes that Karma caused the death of his eldest son.  But Karma has no need of Tinlé’s consent.  He already has the support of the young of his village and prepares the caravan ready for its departure before the appointed date.   Tinlé is outraged and, accompanied by his second son, his grandson and some loyal old friends, he leaves on the date set by custom.  What ensues is a veritable duel between the old man and the unforgiving mountains...
