Summary
Pierre Lambert is the owner of a cosy bar in the heart of Pigalle, Paris, named À l’Ami Pierrot.  His girlfriend, Dora, is a singer at the Nouvelle Éve cabaret.  To keep on good terms with the local gangsters, Pierre has to pay protection money to a racketeer named Albert.  One evening,  Petit Bob, one of Albert’s henchmen, pays Pierre a visit and tells him that Albert expects him to pay more money because the bar is doing good business.  Aware that he may be heading for trouble, Pierre ignores Albert’s threats and refuses to pay up.  When police Inspector Martinet sees Petit Bob leaving the bar he knows that Pierre could need his help.  Pierre soon regrets rejecting Martinet’s help, because the following day he is visited by Albert, Petit Bob and a third men named Dédé, who intend teaching him a lesson.  But things go badly wrong when Pierre shoots Albert dead and runs away.  Inspector Martinet leads the investigation, without knowing that Petit Bob plans to use Dora to obtain his revenge...
