Synopsis
The vicar of the island of Sein returns to the mainland, discouraged by the poor islanders who are driven to wreck passing boats and steal their cargo.  These same islanders then put pressure on Thomas Gouvernec, a popular local fisherman, to take the place of the vicar, and he eventually agrees to stand in until a new priest can be found.  Thomas then learns from his pregnant sister-in-law that the child she is about to give birth to is not that of his brother, but her lover...
