Overview
Carmen is a French romantic film drama first released in 1945,
directed by Christian-Jaque.
The film is based on a novel by Prosper Mérimée and stars Viviane Romance, Jean Marais, Lucien Coëdel and Julien Bertheau.
It has also been released under the title: Carmen.

Synopsis
Arrested after provoking a fight in a cigarette factory in Seville, a seductive
gypsy girl named Carmen persuades the soldier guarding her, Don
José, to let her go. From the moment he first sees Carmen,
Don José is entranced by her. After escaping from prison
with the gypsy girl’s help, he becomes her lover, but the consequences
are disastrous for him. When he kills another officer in a
swordfight, Don José has no choice but to desert and join a band
of smugglers, Carmen’s friends. He is stunned when he learns that
Carmen is married to the smugglers’ leader, Garcia, and is even more
surprised when Carmen asks him to kill him...
